Zena unfortunately injured herself not long after breaking in but was showing plenty of ability. She was bred by Fred and Kim Johnston, of Cuttabar Quarter Horses fame – one of the most consistently successful breeding programs in the industry.
Her sire, WR This Cats Smart, (LTE $236,000 US. PE over $16 million US) sadly recently deceased has been a notable sire of big winnng cutters and cowhorses in Australia and the States. He is emerging as an invaluable dam sire with numerous Futurity and Derby winners in Australia including the 2022 R Futurity Champion Cuttabar Designed in Metal and finalist Cuttabar Stevie’s Destintion and earners of over $200,00 US - Dr Sueish, Stole A Kiss and NRCHA Futurity and Derby winner Selvarey in the States.
Zena is a full sister to Australian Champion Cowhorse Look at Me Duck and a maternal sister to NCHA Derby winner Metallic Duck and notable money earners C Me N Reys Ya (dam of Futurity winner Reys Ya Kitty) and Nothin Sweeta Than A Duck. She is also closely related to the 2023 NCHA Derby winner Ducktacular who recently sold for $400,000 at the 2023 Nutrien Classic Sale.
In 2022 Zena foaled an outstanding bay colt (JA King Cat) for Jamuna by NRR Cat King Cole. He has been sold to a top competition cutting home.
Her 2023 foal is a stunning chestnut rabicano filly (JA Duckish) who has been sold to a top competition cutting home.
She has been bred to Stevie Rey Von for a 2024 foal.
She is a multiple Futurity and Derby finalist and consistent money earner and an influential brood mare. She is a full sister to big money earners Reyduckulous and Duckalicious, who is the dam of Holdens’ star Garterlicious. She is a maternal sister to top drafters Duckreygous and Simply Irreducktable.
She is the dam of NCHA Derby winner Metallic Duck and multiple cutting and campdrafting winners including C Me N Reys Ya, Nothin Sweeta that a Duck, Look at Me Duck etc.
Her dam Dazzling Duckling was a full sister to Dashing Duckling dam of one of Australia’s highest earning NCHA horse Ducks Dux and top campdrafter Ducks Rey and the 2023 NCHA Derby winner Ducktacular who recently sold for $400,000 at the 2023 Nutrien Classic sale.
